About us
Hi, I'm glad you found yourself here!
WAO Matcha AB was founded by me, Astrid Johansson, with the vision of making matcha more available. I'm a real matcha-nerd who fell in love with the unique Japanese tea in the spring of 2021. After that, I couldn't let go of the fact that the matcha range in Sweden and Europe was so limited at the time. I therefore took matters into my own hands and started developing WAO Matcha in high school as a UF-Company. Now I continue to run WAO Matcha with an natural focus on making matcha more available both when it comes to taste and price. WAO Matcha is Sweden's first matcha supplier with a total focus on the incredible Japanese matcha tea.
WAO Matcha offers high-quality matcha for everyday use that suits everyone. Matcha is a healthy tea with endless use options. With WAO you can make yourself a classic matcha tea, a trendy matcha latte or a creamy matcha cookie.

About matcha
抹茶 or matcha means ''ground tea'', which is exactly what it is.
Matcha is a stone-milled green tea powder originating from Japan and a centuries-old tea ceremony. It is said that the special and now famous matcha tea was originally created by accident.
Matcha is special because of a unique cultivation process, which makes that the vitamin and antioxidant levels much higher than in ordinary teas. The tea is mainly grown on Goko or Samidori tea plants. During the cultivation process, the tea plants are covered with a cover during the last period before harvest, this causes that the tea leaves are only reached by 10% sunlight and the chlorophyll in the plant increases. The fine leaves are then picked and laid out to dry. Finally, the matcha leaves are ground in special stone mills, which creates a fine-grained and vitamin-rich green tea powder.
Matcha is prepared with about 70° water and a bamboo whisk, this reduces klumps and activates the matcha tea. The so-called matcha shot can then be drunk straight, diluted into a tea or mixed with milk to create a latte. You can also use matcha powder in other drinks, cooking and baking.
In recent years, matcha has spread beyond the borders of Asia and is today found in various small trends all over the world. It is a versatile and healthy tea enriched with vitamins, antioxidants and L-theanine.
L-Theanine, together with caffeine, provides focus and an invigorating effect that spreads evenly throughout the day. So most people don't get a caffeine kick from matcha. It is usually said that a matcha latte contains approximately 40mg of caffeine. Therefore, matcha is an excellent complement to coffee.
