Familiar, just greener
Created by bakamedcilla. A soft, buttery marble cake, but with matcha folded in. Light, fluffy, and finished with a creamy frosting that makes it feel a little more elevated.
Ingredients
Matcha Marble Cake
- 200 g butter (room temperature)
- 2 1/2 dl white sugar
- 3 eggs
- 4 dl all-purpose flour (approx. 240 g)
- 1 tsp baking powder
- A pinch of salt
- 2 tbsp vanilla sugar
- 1 dl milk or water
- 2 tbsp matcha powder
Cream Cheese Frosting
- 100 g melted butter
- 200 g cream cheese
- 1.5 dl powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp vanilla sugar

How to make
1. Prepare the batter
Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F).
Cream together butter and sugar until smooth.
Add eggs one at a time, whisking until the batter is light and fluffy.
2. Add dry ingredients
Mix the dry ingredients separately, then gently fold into the batter until just combined.
Stir in the milk or water.
3. Create the matcha swirl
Divide the batter and place about 1/3 in a separate bowl.
Mix matcha powder with a splash of warm water (~70°C) until smooth, then fold into the smaller portion of batter.
4. Assemble
Prepare a loaf pan with parchment paper or butter and breadcrumbs.
Alternate layers of plain and matcha batter.
Use a knife to gently swirl and create a marble pattern.
5. Bake
Bake in the center of the oven for about 45 minutes, or until set and a toothpick comes out clean.
Let cool completely.
Make the frosting
Whisk together cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla sugar until smooth.
Slowly pour in the melted (slightly cooled) butter while whisking.
The butter will firm up as it mixes with the cold cream cheese, creating a fluffy, stable frosting.
7. Finish
Spread the frosting over the cooled cake.

Final touch
Soft, swirled, and creamy on top, the kind of cake that feels both nostalgic and new.
